This module, facilitated by an alternating academic, aims to enhance students’ understanding of key concepts, controversies and emerging trends in basic income studies. Tailored to each academic’s expertise and current research, this seminar will allow students to gain valuable insights and perspectives from leaders in the field.

In WS 2025/26 this course will be taught by visiting scholar, Prof. Dr. Gerald Pech. The course will run between December 2025 and February 2026, and the language of instruction and assessment will be German.

Target Group, Eligibility, and Language
This course is available for all students enrolled in a master degree, and and bachelor students who are in at least their third semester.
There are no formal requirements, but a background in economics, political science or public policy is beneficial.
For 2025/26, the language of instruction and assessment will be German.

The course will be delivered as a block seminar between December 2025 and February 2026.
Please note, to pass this course, students need to attend 80% or more of classes. Please ensure you can attend sufficient events before registering.

Course Assessment
Seminararbeit (50%), Präsentation (30%), und aktive Teilnahme an dem Seminar (20%). Die Seminararbeit von Bachelor-Studierenden soll 10 Seiten bei angemessenem Rand und Schriftgrad 12 (Times New Roman) nicht übersteigen und dabei die in der Liste angegebene Literatur auswerten. Master-Studierende haben maximal 15 Seiten bei angemessenem Rand und Schriftgrad 12 (Times New Roman) für ihre Seminararbeit zur Verfügung und sollen für das gewählte Thema zusätzlich eigenständig ermittelte und einschlägige Literatur verarbeiten.
Basierend auf den Seminararbeiten ist ein Vortrag vorzubereiten. Die Vorträge der Teilnehmenden sind die Basis der Diskussionsrunden. Es besteht Anwesenheitspflicht. Eine Fehlzeit von über 20% führt zum nicht Bestehen des Seminars.
Begründete Ausnahmen müssen mit dem Dozenten abgesprochen werden.

Registration
Registration will take place on ILIAS. Students are required to submit their current grade transcript, but registration will otherwise be open on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration will open on 6 October 2025, 10am. Please ensure you fulfil course eligibility (see above). If you are no longer able to complete the course, please leave the ILIAS so that your place may be taken by another student.
